Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mix two dry foods together for my pet?

Whether in the short term or long term, many pet parents prefer to mix two dry foods, or combine dry food with canned or frozen food.

Reasons for this decision include: flavor variety, and offering nutrients from lots of different ingredients/sources.

To create a nutritionally balanced mix and maintain your pet’s healthy weight, here are some tips for successful mixing…

  • Only mix foods for the same species and life stage (i.e. don’t mix dog and cat food, or puppy and adult food together).
  • Make sure both foods are nutritionally complete and balanced, with similar nutrient profiles. When mixing Fromm recipes, we see pet parents using two Four-Star Nutritionals recipes (which come in many flavors and are designed for variety) or using a Four-Star Nutritionals recipe mixed with a Fromm Gold recipe, for additional flavor.
  • Feed the proper amount for your pet. This may involve doing some math based on the proportion of each food you’re mixing. Our team is happy to confirm how much of each recipe your pet should eat.

If your dog experiences stomach troubles or has a potential allergy or any other issue with food, mixing may make it difficult to determine which recipe or ingredient isn’t a good fit for them. These pets may do better sticking with a recipe that you know suits them well.

But for many pets, mixing is a fun way to offer new and enjoyable flavors.
